How do BRITA water filters work?

BRITA water filters provide an easy but highly effective way to have clean, filtered water at home, straight from the tap. With a BRITA filter, you can provide the whole household with great tasting filtered water by reducing a number of impurities that exist in our tap water.

There are a range of filters from BRITA, and we thought we'd share at how they each work.

How does the BRITA MAXTRA+ filter work?

The MAXTRA+ is BRITA's most popular filter. It utilises unique MicroFlow technology with a mixture of Ion Exchange Pearls and Micro Carbon Pearls to provide expert levels of filtration for different water conditions in Australia.

As soon as the water comes into contact with the Ion Exchange Pearls, they bind and reduce metals such as lead and copper that may possibly be present in household pipes. In addition, they also ensure reliable protection from limescale build-up by reducing carbonate hardness of the water (calcium and magnesium ions) in the mains water. This is particularly important for certain areas of Australia and New Zealand where hard water is present.”.

Meanwhile, the Micro Carbon Pearls, made from the carbon from natural coconut shells, adsorb and lock away substances such as chlorine and chlorine compounds that impair the taste of drinking water.

Furthermore, the BRITA MAXTRA+ filter also contains a fine Micro Mesh for reduction of rough particles and a fine cartridge grid which effectively controls the exit of fine particles.

How does the MicroDisc filter work?

The BRITA MicroDisc is a slim disc that fits into BRITA water bottles and carafes. The MicroDisc is made from compressed, natural, activated carbon from coconut shells, with a fleece covering on both sides for optimal filtration. Using ActivSelect technology, the filters remove undesirable extras that can come through our tap water. Importantly, the MicroDisc keeps in important minerals like calcium and magnesium, so you can have great tasting water.

How does the On Tap Filter work?

The BRITA On Tap Filter works with the On Tap System to filter your water, straight from the kitchen tap.

The filter works by using activated carbon pearls to reduce any impurities that affect taste and odour, such as chlorine or certain herbicides, pesticides, hormones, and pharmaceutical residues that may be present in tap water. The Ion Exchange fibre reduces metals like lead and copper. Finally, the hollow fibre membrane reduces microplastics, and 99.99% of bacteria, should there any bacteria be present in the water.

The On Tap System is increasingly popular, as you can install the system easily and without any tools, and equally easily detach it from your tap. You can switch filtered water on and off as you prefer, so there is no wastage. The On Tap offers great convenience, and is especially suitable for renters. then forget all about it.
